What's new
katchiGRAB™ gets better in small, frequent steps. Here is every release so far and what each one actually does for you — newest first.
Current version: 18 · October 20, 2026
You never reinstall anything
katchiGRAB updates itself. The next time you open it — in a browser tab, or as an installed app from your Dock, taskbar, or home screen — it quietly picks up the newest files and runs them. There is no app store, no download, no uninstall, and nothing to delete. The first time you open a new version, a short note in the side panel tells you what changed, and a link brings you back to this page. Dismiss it and it stays gone.
If you ever want to be certain you are current, the version number sits at the bottom of the app's side panel and in the About page footer; compare it with the number above. A refresh (or closing and reopening an installed copy) is the only nudge it ever needs.
Version 18 · October 20, 2026
- You can see which version you have. The number now appears in the app's side panel footer and on the About page, linked to this page.
- Updates announce themselves. After katchiGRAB refreshes itself, a one-time note names what's new instead of leaving you to notice on your own.
- This page. Release notes written in plain terms, so you can decide whether a change matters to you.
- The header buttons name themselves. Hover or tab to Mini, the share tray, light/dark, or the accent picker and the label appears immediately — no waiting for a system tooltip.
- The mini console is easier to find. The start screen now points it out in Chrome and Edge, where it works.
Version 17 · October 2026
- A mini console. katchiGRAB at business-card size: a small window that floats above every app with Grab one click away. Start a capture from it and the controls stay inside the console, out of your way. Open it from the Mini button, or right-click the installed app's icon and choose Mini console. Chrome and Edge.
- Crop. Any selection can become your working image — including a lasso trace, which keeps its exact shape with everything outside it transparent. The uncropped grab stays in your tray.
- Every markup tool names itself. Hover any icon in the toolbar over your grab and the tool's name appears at once, shortcuts included.
Versions 14–16 · October 2026
- It tells you what to do on your first grab. The start screen describes the real flow, and the first capture points out the markup toolbar and the controls that float above your apps — once, then never again.
- Verified in every engine. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all run the full feature set with no errors; each browser's extras appear only where they work, so you never meet a dead button.
- Honest about Chrome. If your browser is missing the extras — pinning a grab above every window, floating controls, the mini console, the eyedropper — katchiGRAB says so and names the browsers that have them, instead of hiding features silently.
- Better on phones. On a phone the steps describe the flow that actually works there: screenshot, open it here, mark up, share. Layout and controls fit small screens and notches properly.
Version 13 and earlier · October 2026, launch
katchigrab.com went live on October 18, 2026 with the whole toolkit: capture a tab, window, or screen behind a live preview that holds until you snap; trace any shape with the lasso; mark up with arrows, boxes, highlights, text, and step numbers; redact for real, destroying the covered pixels; record to video; pin a grab above every window; build one image from many on the board; save in ten formats at the right resolution, under a size limit if you set one; and share an encrypted link that self-destructs after 24 hours, an hour, or a single view. Plus dark and light modes, twelve accent colors, keyboard shortcuts, offline use, and installation as an app — free, with no account, no ads, and no tracking.
On the list
Ideas being built next, with no promised dates: a QR code beside every share link so a grab jumps to your phone without typing, a pixel ruler for measuring what you captured, and a single keyboard menu for every command. Suggestions are welcome through katchimedia.com.
